This Atlantis Models’ reissue of Revell’s popular 1958 model, reissued several times, really encapsulates the “Golden Age” of airplane models. In real life a sadly short-lived aircraft, which was overshadowed by the B-52 Stratofortress, the B-58 was the far cooler machine and - by many accounts - the better aircraft, which fell victim to military infighting and sneaky defense company shenanigans. In operation from 1960 to 1972, Convair delivered 116 Hustlers to the US Air Force, although less than a dozen still exist today. (If you want to get the real story on the sabotage of the B-58 program, read Colonel George Holt Jr’s terrific book, “The B-58 Blunder,” which proves definitely that the better man does not always win!) Back to the model. A sleek design, very clean parts and a lot of fun detail. And so many decals! I chickened out on all the stripes for the jet engines, but otherwise the decals went on perfectly. The finished model is stunning, and will be a prized addition to your collection. Another bit of classic Cold-War nostalgia that will not disappoint.
